Stainless Steel 317L Bars are manufactured from a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel alloy with about 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, and 3–4% molybdenum. The carbon content is kept low in order to minimize carbide precipitation in welding, increasing resistance to intergranular corrosion. These bars generally have tensile strength of about 75 ksi, yield strength of about 30 ksi, and elongation of 35–40%. Their chemical composition is excellent in resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and acidic conditions and is thus very durable under aggressive conditions.
