The AWS Class ER317L filler metal is composed of roughly 18–20% chromium, 12–14% nickel, 3–4% molybdenum, and a maximum of 0.03% carbon, along with trace amounts of manganese and silicon. This well-balanced composition provides exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially when compared to ER316L, making it ideal for aggressive chloride environments. Its mechanical properties include a tensile strength of about 550–650 MPa, a yield strength around 300 MPa, and an elongation rate of 30–35%, ensuring it remains tough, ductile, and high-performing even in corrosive and high-temperature conditions.
